Day 13 Douglas to Rodeo NM
Goodbye Arizona. Hello New Mezico
50 miles of easy riding. We had a fantastic tailwind. I was going 26-28 mph and I wasn't pedaling. How easy of a ride was that. We stopped at the lunch spot and it was so windy you had to hurry up and eat as the bun was getting dry. I picked up my bike and the wind took my back tire and I couldn't set it down. It was too windy to stay long.
We stopped at the signs and you can't imagine how hard it was to stop and take those pictures. But we did. Crazy wild wind. Border Patrol said it hadn't been that bad in a long time.
It was easy riding no pedaling until we turned and had the same strong winds only coming at us from the side. We were all gripping our handlebars hoping not to get pushed over. This was quite dangerous. Everyone said they were worried about me cuz I'm too short, etc. They were worried that he wind had taken me away. But I survived it.
Then we stopped at the Apache Museum and gift shop. The most dangerous part of the trip. I ended up buying a poncho that was not only beautiful but it didn't go down to my knees. Beth one of our staff put it in the car for me and I'll pick it up at the end of the trip.
We stayed in this lodge by the side of the road - a mile down from the museum. Beds everywhere and a really nice place. Part of the group stayed at the Painted Pony Resort. 2 miles of dirt road. This place belongs to John McAfee - the computer security inventor that most people have on their computers to prevent hacking, etc. Beautiful home. Not large but very tastefully decorated. He had 2 guest houses small but very tastefully done. I think he calls it a resort for tax purposes.
No more pictures I can't seem to pull them thru..
