Day 18. Ft Hancock to Van Horn

What a morning.  I couldn't sleep last nite and then finally fell asleep.  We were in the gym at FT Hancock so it's indoor camping.  I had my ear plugs in and was so sound asleep that Ellen was having to push and juggle me awake.  They said I jumped sky high and raced around trying to get my stuff together.  What a beginning for the day.  But at least I was able to get my coffee.  Most important.

72 mile day.  Gayle is out sick again today and went to urgent care.  She has her own diet for the next few days and some medicine.  She'll not ride tomorrow to be on the safe side but plans on riding the next day.   So it was me, Ellen and Rose.

Lunch was at a restaurant in Sierra Blanca.  This is a historic town but like so many of these small towns that have been abandoned there's not much left to see.   Coming into town are old buildings that are in ruins that probably have some good stories to tell.   The only restaurant in town has a sign Michaels and also Delfinos..  I remember it well as in 2011 I ordered a BLT.  The crust was cut off and the bread put in the toaster and came out white.  Not toasted at all.  The sandwich was ok it just looked weird.  So today I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and it was good, toasted with melted cheese inside.

It wasn't really beautiful as the other days have been.  In fact, a little boring at times riding the roads.  I liked going on I 10 as the roads are smoother.  Today is the last day we will be riding I 10.   We saw some nice farms with horses and cows and even some pigs but that was about it.

Then came the best part of the ride.  A gentle climb up  on I10 and then down and down and down.  10 miles of absolute fun.  Then into the Super 8 tonite.  A massage and dinner by Anne.  She is an excellent chef.  I don't know how she does it.
