Day 2 Alpine to Jacumba
So today was a short day of 42 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing. Warm climbing up and cold going down with the sun out most of the way. They shuttled us back to Alpine so we could continue the ride with no break in mileage as everyone wants to be an EFIer. Riding Every *Fun* Inch. They have great rest stops and one of my favorites is peanut butter on a tortilla. Now some have it with a pickle, Makes sense but it makes me cringe.
We had a hill today that went on forever at least 5 miles. It just never stopped. It brought us close to our Sag check in which was at a store/deli. The sandwiches are as big as a super burrito and it was only $6.99, What a deal. We had the lady cut into 3 pieces.
As we left the store/deli we had 11 miles left to go. We were less than half mile from the stop when Gayle's bike made a horrific noise. The fender she had just put on in San Diego broke. She couldn't ride so we called the Sag. Coach the mechanic had just driven into the sag stop so came right down. He clipped it off and we continued the ride.
The sag stop reminds me of the fish taco I had the day before. The best and the biggest and the tastiest taco I've ever had. I wish I could remember the name of the town but I only remember it was Robertos Tacos. Drive through with a line of cars that reached the street.
Some random pictures from today and yesterday.
