Day 23 81 miles. Day 24 73 miles day 25 74 miles
I haven't had wifi in a couple of days. And when I did it was so slow I didn't have the patience. So here are the 3 days combined.
Sanderson to Comstock 81 miles
Comstock to Brackenville 73 miles
Brackenville to Comcan 74 miles
All 3 days had 3 things in common: hills, chip seal and headwinds. But each day's difference was heat the first day, fog the second day and rain the 3rd day. The terrain each day changed. Desert and then desert with some green and then the third day - Trees. Green trees!
On the way to Comstock there were the 3 tires chained together. They get hooked to the back of a truck and is then pulled down the dirt road. The border patrol are looking for illegals coming across. They call it shadow cutting. They can see not only footprints, blankets, boards, etc laying across the road. They are checked every morning shift and evening shift. There are miles of desert between the two borders and it takes 18 to 20 days to walk across. The illegal must carry everything with him. If he has hired a Coyote to take him across it costs between $4500-$6000. If they get caught the coyote disappears and if he gets caught with the others he gets in between and and makes sure no one rats him out.
We stopped and had lunch at the judge Roy Bean museum. Then road on to Seminole Canyon State Park. 20 miles of heat and hills to get to it until we crossed the Pecos River.
Brackenville morning my sleeping bag ripped. I tried taping it but it didn't work so I borrowed one from a rider and then Francis picked one up for me at Walmart. It was quite a stressful morning.
On the way to Brackenvile we had the fog and of course more chip seal and headwinds. A sign in town said LIQUER GUNS. Right next to it was the men's detention center. Go figure. We stopped for lunch at Rudys and had some awesome ribs.
On our way to Comcan we had a Border Patrol checkpoint. We had to get in line with the cars and were asked if we were American citizens. Although it missed and had light rain most of the day once we arrived an one of our checkpoints at a gas station and a store it started pouring. So we decided to duck into this boutique - it was very eclectic and in the middle of nowhere. But it was fun checking things out until the rain stopped.
our campsite that night was at River Bend and we had cabins. Beautiful place on the river and once again a little store with things to buy. Lovely place where I would stay again if ever in the area. The next day was a day off and we all hung out and rested after 3 full days of riding hills.
