Day 31. Mexican Hill Ranch (Richards). 88 miles

It was a great day today.  We left La Grange with warm humid weather.  Brad gave Bubba a route that was off the highway and really pretty scenery.  We rode into Carmine where the folks of Carmine had donuts and coffee for us all.  Brad road from his home to the rest stop and visited with all of us.  A very personable person.   A really nice person.  He's an architect and his home shows it.

After that it was one lovely hill after another.  The area was full of ranches and cattle.  Really a pretty area.   Our rest stop for lunch was at the Very old Baylor U.  In 2011 a group (and I don't remember who they were fixed us a huge bbq.  They had expected a lot of riders and at the time there were only 13 of us.  We couldn't eat it all so Bubba had bought up the rest of the food and we had it for dinner that nite.  Today we had fixed our sandwiches before we left and we had that with chips.

We stopped at the DQ in Navasoto and I had my first ever Blizzard.  It was really good and will have another at the next Dairy Queen..  They are big in Texas.  Almost every small town has a DQ. Another big draw is the statue of the Texas ranger who brought down Bonnie and Clyde.  It's in front of their City Hall.  WE also passed Chuck Norris' huge ranch but because of road construction we couldn't get a picture.  If you ever pass it it's the Lone Wolf Ranch.

Riding into Anderson we met a woman who was so intrigued with us and what we were doing that she wanted a picture of us with her.   She owns a teashop in the town and I'm sure we will be the talk of the teashop for a while.  She was so excited.

The Mexican Hill Ranch is a working ranch where we are staying.  Camping out but the guy has set it up for cyclists.  Camping area, showers, bathrooms and laundry room.  Tonite a cow is in labor.  She may have it tonite or tomorrow.  We are off tomorrow so no cycling just laying about, going on a hayride and maybe watching a calf being born.
