Day 1 SD to Alpine (Jacumba)
Weatherman said no rain in sight so we all dressed for the warmer weather. As we were getting ready to leave the sky darkened. Bubba told us to get under the awning at the motel as we would be in a downpour for 10 minutes. And it was a downpour. When it was over we went out to dog beach and dipped our wheels in the ocean.

It was quite a ride today. At the beginning of the ride it was quite flat so we didn't do well pacing ourselves. But as the day wore on the hills reminded us. We had one climb which was a few miles long. Not a hard climb but it went on forever. We're staying in Jucumba tonite as it was raining and temp was a mere 34 degrees in Alpine. So Bubba shuttled us here at the Jucumba Spa place. Very nice place with a bar, etc. Ann our Chef made a very tasty meal of pork and chicken and a brownie for dessert.
Check out our safety vests that must be worn at all times while on the bike. They wrote our first names on the back and also on the front. So when you come up behind or in front of a rider you see his name. We also have magnetic name tags for when we are not riding but in camp. The more you see the person and his name the more you will remember it.
