Day 5 - Yuma to Dateland

Todays ride was quite uneventful.   70 miles.  We went through Dome Valley which is the Salad Bowl of America.  Every salad you eat during the winter time comes from the Yuma area.  Gayle took bunches of photos but I didn't.  Workers were out in the fields bending over picking the vegetables and I just thought "which one of us would be willing to do that back breaking work".

We stopped for lunch at this little restaurant in Tacna.  She is closed on Wednesdays but every year she opens for the cyclists only.  In fact 2 motorcyclists pulled in and she went out and told them it was a private party.  She even noted that on the door in case she didn't catch them before they came in the door.  Great food.  She had a turkey blaster for $8,  a BLT with turkey and avocado.  Everyone liked it but I had the plain BLT.

Dateland is well known for its Date Shakes and Cactus Shakes.  And so I had the Cactus shake which tastes like strawberry.  It was good I would have it again.

Tonite is our first night in a tent.  I like it.  I think this bike tour has a great mix of the 3.  Tents, indoor and outdoor camping.  You get to know everyone better as you're out and about with them more instead of going from motel to motel.

That's it for tonite.  I hope I'm better at keeping this blog going.  Having trouble getting the pics online thought.  So that may not happen all the time.
