Day 44. Dauphin Island to Pensacola. 55 miles

We all survived the storm on the island last nite.  Hard rain, lightening, thunder, strong winds but we were safe in our Baptist Mission Retreat building.

So today was a great day.  55 miles of tailwinds.  Nothing like the tailwinds riding to Rodeo, New Mexico but pedaling we were riding 20 mph easy.  The sun was out and we were all happy.

We left the island on the car ferry over to Fort Morgan, Alabama.  It was a little rocky but not bad and the exciting part were 2 dolphins that came up to say good morning.  The highlight of our morning.

Leaving the ferry we rode to the Alabama/Florida line.  They have this crazy restaurant/oyster bar/
Gift shop, Entertainment, all kinds of crazy things going on plus the bars have these crazy drinks that taste so good but are dangerous if more than a couple are consumed.  It was a lot of fun and we stayed there for quite a while.  Others bought a t shirt but I didn't care for them so bought a magnet.

Coming into Pensacola we went through the historic district of this town and stopped at the Al Fresco which is an outdoor food court in Airstream trailers.  There had been a baseball game on one end of this street and down a couple of blocks they had the tall ships so it was a pretty busy area when we were there.

We are indoor camping at the oldest Methodist church in Pensacola.  They also are a bike hostel for riders coming through the area.  The ladies of the church fixed us dinner tonite and it was outstanding.  The salad table was better than any salad bar I've ever had.  Pasta, salad and chocolate cake for dessert.

One of our riders took a fall, was injured and not able to continue the ride.  So we have one of his luggage tags and everyone is taking turns and bringing it along on each day's journey and taking pictures with the tag so Bobby is going along with us.  We then send the pics with his tag to him.  I thought that was such a special thing to do for him and we feel and so does he still a part of the group.

Tomorrow is a very short day so we are going to hang out and take our time leaving Pensacola.  It's almost like another day off.
